Michelle Afkhami, Assistant Professor of Biology, received the UM Faculty Mentor of the Year Award.


Susanna Allés Torrent, Assistant Professor of Modern Languages & Literatures, received a research fellowship at the École Francaise de Rome for Spring 2020.


Chrissy Arce, Associate Professor of Modern Languages & Literatures, received a MLA’s Katherine Singer Kovacs Prize for her book, Mexico’s Nobodies: The Cultural Legacy of the Soldadera and Afro-Mexican Women; Honorable Mention for the Elli Köngäs-Maranda Professional Prize from the American Folklore Society.


Robin Bachin, Charlton W. Tebeau Associate Professor of History and Assistant Provost for Civic & Community Engagement, received an Impact Award for Excellence in Community Development for LAND: Land Access for Neighborhood Development; Thomas Ehrlich Civically Engaged Faculty Award; Award of Excellence and Best Practice Award, from the Florida Gold Coast Chapter of the American Planning Association.


Merike Blofield, Director of Gender & Sexuality Studies and Associate Professor of Political Science, recieved the Women's Commission May A. Brunson Award. This award was named in honor of the University's second Dean of Women and is given to the person within the University community who most contributes to improving the status of women on campus.


Berit Brogaard, Professor of Phillosophy, received an A&S Cooper Fellow Award.


Robert Stephen Cantrell, Chair and Professor of Mathematics, received an A&S Cooper Fellow Award.


José Cardoso da Silva, Professor of Geography, received the 2019 American Ornithological Society (AOS) Ralph W. Schreiber Conservation Award recognizing important contributions in the areas of conservation, restoration, and preservation of bird ecosystems around the globe.


Xavier Cortada, Professor of Practice of Art & Art History, received a “Birds of Hubbard Brook,” Residency Award at Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest. White Mountains National Forest, Woodstock, New Hampshire, June 19 – 24, 2019.


Kevin Collins, Assistant Professor of Biology, received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award.


Logan Connors, Associate Professor of Modern Languages & Literatures, received a Research Fellowship at Collegium de Lyon Institute for Advanced Study.


Sannisha Dale, Assistant Professor of Psychology, received the Melba J. T. Vasquez Early Career Award from American Psychological Association, Minority Fellowship Program.


June Teufel Dreyer, Professor of Political Science, was elected President of the American Association for Chinese Studies (AACS).


Patricia Engel, Professor of Practice in Creative Writing, was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship by the Board of Trustees of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.


Donette Francis, Associate Professor of English, received an Advanced Research Collaborative Fellowship at City University of New York.


John Funchion, Associate Professor of English, received a Summer Visiting Research Fellowship from the Wilson Special Collections Library at UNC-Chapel Hill.


Massimiliano Galeazzi, Professor of Physics, received an A&S Cooper Fellow Award.


Krista Goff, Assistant Professor of History, received a Title VIII Short-Term Grant from the Kennan Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.


Susan Haack, Professor of Philosophy, selected for Special Session of the Charles S. Peirce Society entitled “Charles S. Pierce and Susan Haack: The Philosophical Legacy.”


Stephen Halsey, Associate Professor of History, received a Fellowship from the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society, Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich; Taiwan Fellowship from the National Central Library and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


Yader Lanuza, Assistant Professor of Sociology, was selected as a 2019 National Academy of Education (NAEd)/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellow.


Roger Leblanc, Chair and Professor of Chemistry, received a Journal of Oleo Science Impact Award


Mary Lindemann, Professor and Chair of History, was elected president of the American Historical Association (AHA) for a term beginning in January 2020.


J. Tomas Lopez, Chair and Professor of Art & Art History, two solo exhibitions, the Portrait Series and the Paris Metro Series, at Xposure 2019 in the UAE (Dubai); Gave the Keynote Presentation “Photography: the Great Disruptor in the 19th Century.”


Imelda Moise, Assistant Professor of Geography & Regional Studies, received a Fulbright Specialist Award and a Mwape Peer Award for Research Excellence.


Martin Nesvig, Associate Professor of History, received Honorable Mention for his book, Promiscuous Power, for the Alfred B. Thomas Award and for the Bandelier-Lavrin Prize in Colonial Latin American History.


Kathryn Nowotny, Assistant Professor of Sociology, received an A&S Scholarly & Creative Activities Recognition Award.


Jean-Hubert Olivier, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, received an A&S Scholarly & Creative Activities Recognition Award.


Gema Perez Sanchez, Associate Professor of Modern Languages & Literatures, received a 2018 Phil Zwickler Memorial Research Grant to conduct research at Cornell University Library’s Human Sexuality Collection and the Phil Zwickler Charitable and Memorial Foundation.


Will Pestle, Associate Professor of Anthropology, received an Exhibition Award from the Rare Books & Manuscript Section of the Association of College & Research Libraries for “Antillean Visions.”


Alejandro Portes, Professor of Sociology, received Spain’s highest honor, the 2019 Princess of Asturias Award in the Social Sciences, for his significant contributions to the study of international migration.


Jessica Rosenberg, Assistant Professor of English, received an A&S Scholarly & Creative Activities Recognition Award and a Barbara Thom Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Huntington Library, Pasadena, CA for 2018-2019.


Steven Safren, Professor of Psychology, received an A&S Cooper Fellow Award and funding from NIH to establish the University of Miami Center for HIV and Research in Mental Health—CHARM—with the Miller School of Medicine’s Daniel Feaster and Deborah Jones Weiss.


Donald Spivey, Distinguished Professor of History, has been named recipient of the 2019 Faculty Senate's Outstanding Teaching Award.


Mihoko Suzuki, Professor of English, received a Folger Shakespeare Library Visiting Research Fellowship; Newberry Library, Charles Montgomery Grey Fellowship.


Lucina Uddin, Associate Professor of Psychology, received a CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar Award.


Richard Weisskoff, Professor and Chair of International Studies, awarded the George A. Fulton Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Economic and Demographic Analysis.


Ashli White, Associate Professor of History, received an American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Faculty Fellowship; Exhibition Award from the Rare Books & Manuscript Section of the Association of College & Research Libraries for “Antillean Visions.”
