Part of your transition to college life includes selecting some courses for your first semester. This website is intended to help you with that process. Please click on the underlined orange links below for information about our degree requirements and course selection process for first-semester College of Arts and Sciences students.
To begin your Arts & Sciences experience and course registration, please complete the following steps: Step 1: CHECK YOUR UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI E-MAIL AT: email.miami.edu Step 2: LOG IN TO BLACKBOARD Using your Cane ID, you will log in to Blackboard at https://courses.miami.edu. 1. Click on “Arts & Sciences Welcome and Registration Guide” under “My Organizations.” • Provide instructions on how to register for your classes. Step 3: REGISTER Register for courses, referring to the instructions provided in the “Arts & Sciences Welcome and Registration Guide” in Blackboard, as well as our advising appointment. Remember that in order to be considered full-time, you must enroll in 12-17 credits your first semester at the University of Miami. Step 4: SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR ACADEMIC ADVISOR FOR REGISTRATION (If Needed) You will receive an email from an Arts & Sciences Academic Advisor regarding additional advising the Tuesday after you have completed your admissions deposit. Be sure to reply to this email to schedule an appointment. We will discuss goals, major selection, degree requirements, course selection, AP/IB/CLEP scores, campus referrals, and other topics. Please have the following available for your advising appointment if they apply to you: Step 5: REVIEW THE ACADEMIC CALENDAR
Your University of Miami e-mail will be main method of communication, so it is critical that you check it on a regular basis.
2. Complete the module found on the “Arts & Sciences Welcome and Registration Guide” Home Page. This module serves the following principal purposes:
• Introduce you to the College of Arts & Sciences, including majors, minors, and requirements. Links to further information about each major and minor are provided, however, you may access this information at http://bulletin.miami.edu/undergraduate-academic-programs/arts-sciences/.
• AP/IB/CLEP scores
• A copy of your most recent transcript(s) from any other colleges you’ve completed courses at.
• Send all official transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions
As you begin to attend classes, you may want to adjust your schedule. Be mindful of deadlines listed on the Academic Calendar.
Faculty Advisors will be assigned in CaneLink by September 10th. Prior to this assignment, you can work with your Professional Academic Advisor who assisted you with registration. Once the semester begins, advisors will be available on a walk-in basis through September 14th. The Center for Freshmen Advising is always available to first-year students.
