Prof. Jan Nijman, Geography & Regional Studies

Professor Nijman is a native of the Netherlands and received his BA and MA in Geography from the University of Amsterdam. He obtained a PhD in Geography at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Professor Nijman’s interests are in urban and regional development, globalization, comparative urbanism, and geopolitics. His regional interests include South Florida and Mumbai, with over a decade of field work experience in India. Nijman is professor of Geography & Regional Studies at UM and he is an elected member of the Committee for Research & Exploration of the National Geographic Society.

Steering Committee and Faculty

The Urban Studies Program is managed by a Director and a Steering Committee. The Committee is a multi-disciplinary group of faculty from Arts & Sciences with representation from the School of Architecture and the School of Business.
