Dean's Student Ambassadors

The Dean’s Student Ambassadors are a distinguished and diverse group of students who have been selected to represent the College of Arts & Sciences in various capacities and venues.  These students act as a liaison between the Office of the Dean and the A&S student body.  They advocate for undergraduate education; they assist in new student recruitment and participate in college development and fundraising events.  The Student Ambassadors plan and participate in civic activities and community outreach programs while remaining active in supporting a unified and distinct undergraduate experience for A&S students at UM.

Current Ambassadors

  • Jennifer Beaudry

Hello, my name is Jennifer Beaudry and I am in my fourth year here at the University of Miami. I am a double major in biology and ecosystem science and policy and I have a minor in chemistry. I am originally from Connecticut but my family now lives in West Palm Beach, Florida. I lived on campus for my first two years of college and now live in a nearby home with my two best friends. I am very involved with the medical fraternity on campus as well as with the nearby children's hospital. I go to the hospital once a week to work with the sick kids and I absolutely love it! I also very much enjoy immersing myself in the Miami culture and experiencing all of the unique things South Florida has to offer. My ultimate goal is to attend a great medical school and become a surgeon.

  • Andrew Bromley

Hello, my name is Andrew Bromley and I am a senior here at the University of Miami. I am a Neuroscience major with minors in English and Chemistry. I am from Plantation, FL and have spent these past four years living on campus. Along with serving the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences as a Student Ambassador, I am also a Peer Advising Liaison to the Department of Psychology and Computer Lab Manager for Information Technology. I also provide tours to prospective students and their families through the President's 100 and am a Research Assistant at the University of Miami Center for Autism and Related Disabilities. In the future, I aspire to attend medical school.

  • Rafael Gallardo

My name is Rafael Gallardo. I am a junior at the University of Miami. I study History and Economics and have a minor in Mathematics. I was born in Cuba but grew up in Ottawa, the capital of Canada. I am very interested in travelling and international culture. I spent the last six months studying abroad in Central Europe and it changed my life. At the moment, however, I am trying my hardest to take advantage of all the great opportunities that UM and the city of Miami have to offer. I especially appreciate the diversity of thought and culture that we are so lucky to have here in South Florida. Ultimately, my goal is to attend Law School and become a practicing Lawyer.

  • Amanda Gomez

I am currently a fourth year student, majoring in English and minoring in history and modern languages.  I was recently a summer fellow at the University of Miami’s Cuban Heritage Collection, where I examined questions of Cuban nationhood and identity in the twentieth century, combining my interests in history and literature.  I am also involved in the university’s student newspaper, The Hurricane, where I work as the editor for the arts and culture section.  Following graduation, I hope to pursue graduate study and eventually earn a Ph.D. in English literature.

Research Project Title: Characterization of the abundance and growth of the fecal indicator bacterium enterococci in the supratidal zones of Hobie Cat Beach, a nonpoint source beach, before and after a complete renovation of the beach transect, in order to reevaluate the use of enterococci as a pathogen indicator organism in public beaches.

  • Kara Haggerty

My name is Kara Haggerty and I am a senior at the University of Miami. I am majoring in Classics (Latin) and with a minor in psychology and chemistry. I have always lived in Baltimore, never seeing a palm tree until I arrived here freshman year. I remained on the pre-med track throughout college, but switched majors from psychology to Classics in my junior year. I equally enjoy learning about ancient cultures through humanities as well as the intricate functions of the human body. I am heavily involved in Cardiac Surgery Research at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where I spend my time during breaks. In my spare time I enjoy playing softball and soccer, sci-fi readings, and laughter among friends and family. After college I plan to continue my medical education in Physician's Assistant school with an open mind to all specialties. I am proud to represent the School of Arts and Sciences here at Miami, and the broad spectrum of educational opportunities it offers.

  • Matthew McCabe

Hi guys, my name is Matt McCabe and I am a sophomore here at the U. I am Neuroscience major on the psychobiology track, chemistry minor, and I am very involved in the ceramics program as well. I am from Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb just outside Chicago. I've lived on campus in Hecht Residential College since last year and I am currently working here as an RA. I spend a lot of time working in Hecht, but I also volunteer in the ER at Doctor's Hospital, and serve as the public relations chair for Students Together Ending Poverty. In my free time I really enjoy going to the beach to get my tan on, scuba diving with friends, wheel throwing, and hunting down some of Miami's best restaurants. I just really love good food, and Miami has a lot of it. After graduation, I'd really like to continue my education and go to medical school.

  • Megan Moran

I'm a Florida native from Port St. Lucie. After completing the International Baccalaureate program in High School, I had to make the difficult decision between an education in Biology or Theatre. I was accepted into the Musical Theatre Conservatory at UM-an honor given to only 16 students a year. I decided to take that as a sign to pursue my passion; I am now in the process of earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre. (But I plan on taking some physiology classes for fun. I know, weird.) I am the President of the Theatre Action Group and the recipient of the Friends of Theatre Scholarship and the Opal Motter Service Award. I chose Miami because it provides such a diverse atmosphere, excellent educators, and exciting courses, all mixed with a vibrant city. I assist students in becoming involved in the thriving arts culture at UM, regardless of major!

  • Amanda Moreno

Amanda Moreno is in her final year at the University of Miami, majoring in political science, psychology and Spanish. She has been working at the Law School admissions office since her first year at UM, and has recently taken on a job in Digital Initiatives at the Cuban Heritage Collection. Amanda has lived in Miami for twelve years and gives back to her community by tutoring children and volunteering at a local school. A native New Yorker, Amanda hopes to return to her beloved home state upon graduation to pursue a Master of Public Policy in urban education and social policy.

  • Kimberly Stanton

My name is Kimberley Stanton and I am in my third year here at the University of Miami. I was born in Birmingham, England, lived in Bogota, Colombia until I was nine, but have lived in Miami, Florida ever since. I am majoring Psychology and plan on pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. I am also minoring in Women and Gender Studies and Religious Studies. I am a Peer Advising Liason at the Undergraduate Academic Services for Psychology, a member of C.O.P.E and Psi Chi, and a research assistant for Dr. Brian Doss in the Couple´s Research Lab. I am currently studying abroad in Madrid, Spain for the semester and recommend it to everyone!

  • Christopher Sterwald

Christopher Sterwald is a junior majoring in Neuroscience, with a minor in Chemistry.   He is on the pre-medical track, and hopes to one day become a psychiatrist.  Chris has been on the President’s Honor Roll for the past year.  He currently serves as secretary for the UM Stem Cell Research Club, and as Activities Coordinator for the Honors Students’ Association, the social arm of the Honors Program.  He also works in the Undergraduate Academic Services for Psychology office as a Peer Advising Liasion (PAL), and has served as a workshop leader for Biology 150.

  • Sagette Van Embden

My name is Sagette Van Embden and I am a Bachelor of Fine Arts major in Photography and graphic design, with a minor in Art history and visual journalism. I was born and raised in Miami, FL however; my entire family is from Cape Town, South Africa. For high school I attended New World School of the Arts where I was a violinist in the symphony orchestra and then I attended Dr. Michael Krop Senior High School.

I am currently a student athlete and a member of the UM swim team, and I have worked as a copy editor for the Miami Hurricane Newspaper. In addition to my photography and my sport, I have also been playing the violin and the piano for the past 15 years.

My future goals are to go to graduate school to get my Masters of Fine Arts degree in photography, and then to eventually get my Doctorate of Fine Arts degree.

  • Mackenzie Wheeler

My name is Mackenzie Wheeler and I am a senior in UM's College of Arts and Sciences. I am double majoring in Psychology and Ecosystem Science and Policy and will be getting minors in Art and Biology. I am from Frenchtown, New Jersey (the side opposite the Jersey Shore). For the past two years I was a Resident Assistant in Stanford Residential College, and am now an RA in Eaton, an upperclassmen dorm. I also work in the Rathskeller as a hostess and as a Research and Office Assistant for a project within the School of Education. I work for credit in the Molecular Core genetics lab on campus and love getting to experience biology on such a small scale. In my free time, I love training for half marathons (and hopefully finally a full one this year!), talking to my residents, and exploring the diversity of Miami. After I earn my degree from UM, I plan to enroll in a Masters of Landscape Architecture program and someday start my own business with my brother.

  • Juliet Wong

My name is Juliet Wong and I am from Orange County, California. I am a senior majoring in marine science, geology, and biology and minoring in chemistry.  Currently, I am spending my Spring 2011 semester studying abroad at Cardiff University in Wales. At Miami, I am involved in Sigma Gamma Epsilon, Rho Rho Rho, and Ocean Kids. I am also a Singer Scholar and a member of the Foote Fellows program. I enjoy scuba diving and hiking. I also love to travel, but there is no place like my home at the University of Miami!
