Jaime Suchlicki Named One of Top 100 Latinos in Miami

History professor Dr. Jaime Suchlicki has been selected as one of the top “100 Latinos in Miami.” Others selected include former FIU President Mitch Maidique; President of Miami Dade College Eduardo Padrón; singer Gloria Estefan; TV personality Oscar Haza; Painter Romero Britto; baseball player Mike Lowell and television personality Don Francisco.

The selection was conducted by the Fundacion Fusionarte of Spain, a prominent Spanish group specializing in minorities in Europe, Latin America and the U.S. A book with the biographies of the nominees was published in October 2010 by the Foundation.

Dr. Suchlicki is Emilio Bacardi Moreau Distinguished Professor of History and Director of the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies at the University of Miami. He is the author of Mexico: From Montezuma to the Rise of the PAN (2008), Cuba: From Columbus to Castro and Beyond (2002), now in its 5th edition, Mexico: From Montezuma to the Fall of the PRI (2001), and Mexico: From Montezuma to NAFTA and Beyond (2000). In 2008, his book Breve Historia de Cuba was selected as the year’s outstanding Hispanic book in the category of history and politics.

Dr. Suchlicki is a highly regarded consultant to the private and public sector on Cuba and Latin American Affairs.
