About the MA and Ph.D. degrees in Sociology

One is more likely to find employment specifically as a sociologist with graduate training. Masters level training provides additional skills pertinent to work with public service and governmental agencies in particular. The doctoral emphasis is upon the training of both qualified researchers and good teachers. We offer specializations in medical sociology, race/ethnic relations, and criminology. Many of our doctoral graduates find employment in teaching positions at the university or college level. The research skills are often put to use in non-academic as well as academic settings, including local medical schools and hospitals.
