Why Study Physics?

"Physics is crucial to understanding the world around us, the world inside us, and the world beyond us. It is the most basic and fundamental science. Physics challenges our imaginations with concepts like relativity and string theory, and it leads to great discoveries, like computers and lasers, that change our lives."*

The Physics Department at the University of Miami has 18 faculty whose experimental and theoretical research spans disciplines from String Theory to Optics, and Condensed Matter to Astrophysics. Our graduate curriculum provides for dissertation research at the forefront of a broad range of disciplines. Undergraduates enjoy the benefits of small class sizes and research opportunities in these same fields. We invite you to learn more about our program and our faculty by exploring the links on this page. Come and study at the University of Miami Physics Department.
