Dr. Amie L. Thomasson

Amie L. Thomasson is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Miami, and the Parodi Senior Scholar in Aesthetics.  Her thematic areas of specialization are in metaphysics, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of art.  She also has historical interests in the phenomenological tradition and its relation to twentieth-century analytic philosophy. 

She received her B.A. Magna Cum Laude from Duke University in 1989, and her M.A. (1992) and Ph.D. (1995) in philosophy from the University of California, Irvine. She taught previously at Texas Tech University (1995-2000) and the University of Hong Kong (1998-2000) before joining UM in 2000. She has been a recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship (2003-4) and summer stipend (2002). She has also been a Visiting Scholar at the Centre for Consciousness at Australian National University, at the Centre for Time at the University of Sydney (Australia), and at the University of Durham (England).

She is the author of Ordinary Objects (Oxford University Press, 2007), Fiction and Metaphysics (Cambridge University Press 1999), and co-editor (with David W. Smith) of Phenomenology and Philosophy of Mind (Oxford University Press, 2005).  She has also published numerous articles and book chapters, many of which are available through links on her publications page.
