Putting Together a Portfolio that includes Self-Reflection

Though it's certainly possible to use an inquiry approach without using portfolio evaluations, we find that most teachers do use portfolios for this kind of work.

Here we include:

Though we modify the portfolio directions each term to reflect the specific assignments we've had students do, the basic form remains much the same: students are encouraged to write a critical analysis of their own work and arrange their final versions of the writing they want to have graded so that any writing teacher could follow what they've done.

  •     an example of a student (Joelle Mendal) writing such a self-reflection

  •     an example of student (Marice Mariano) providing evidence of her use of comments to shape revision

For a fuller discussion of why we admire Joelle's and Marice's writing, please see the Additional Resources section.
