Comments and Evaluation
Student-generated rubric for a survey assignment based on Frisch

We typically have students generate an evaluation rubric as one of the class activities prior to turning in an assignment. We start with a fairly generic rubric that has both higher order features (critical thinking, effective use of evidence, logical argument) and lower order concerns (follows conventions of standard written English). Working with the assignment, samples of student writing, the readings and prior class discussions, students generate a rubric that serves as a checklist of the elements they should be attending to as they write.
