Choosing Projects
Sample Projects Overview

Sample Projects are an alternative to assignment sequences that

  •     do not include readings (though readings could be added)

  •     extend a single investigation across a term, or at least several weeks

  •     provide more than one way to begin and develop the investigation, so individual assignments are not necessarily sequential (except in the Organizational Needs Assessment Project)

  •     encourage students to work in teams to cover different aspects of the project and/or pool data

  •     invite students to imagine non-academic venues for their research

  •     connect to larger researcher projects underway (Water Project, Public Space) and encourage contributions to these projects

  •      are more open-ended, leaving decisions about questions, methods and forms of presentation to be worked out by the researchers and/or their teachers
