Choosing Readings

This section includes

  •     a Readings Overview Chart which show which methods are used in each reading

  •     a Brief Summary of each reading with the author’s own abstract, the features that contributed to our selection of the piece, a list of assignments using the reading, and links to discussion questions and other materials based on the reading available elsewhere on this site. You can jump to a particular brief summary by selecting the reading from either the chart or the alphabetical list below

Remember:

  •    readings represent different disciplines – check the original publication as a clue to the discipline

  •      each reading is a complete essay or chapter from a scholarly book – no excerpts

You'll also want to examine the Assignment Sequences to see how students are invited to work with the reading and for a chart of which methods are used in each of the sequences.

Teaching Reading will give you more suggestions for working with the readings. Additional Resources includes extra internet sites and samples of student work that may also be useful.
