Overview
"Our Transylvanian Study Tour" is a week-long study tour to
Transylvania during Spring Break 2006. This study tour will travel to sites
associated with Prince Vlad III "Drakulya" of Wallachia, the orginal
"Dracula" of history, and will provide increased knowledge of the
historical underpinnings of the Dracula legend. Students will receive one-hour
of credit for study tour; credit will appear as HONR 199Z, Transylvanian Study
Tour.
NOTE: This Study Tour is entirely independent of HONR 199V, 'The Vampire in Folklore,
Fiction, and Film'; you need not be enrolled in one to enroll in the other.
While students registered for HONR 199V will certainly find their experience in
that course enhanced by participation in the Study Tour, the latter is by no
means required. And students who are not in HONR 199V but would like to accompany us to the Land of Dracula are certainly welcome to enroll.
Program Dates: 9-17 March 2006
Program fee [NEW figures as of 2 Dec 2005]: $1164.90. NOTE: all Purdue
students are eligible for a $500 Study Abroad Grant in connection with this
study tour, which -- subtracted from the fee -- leaves a balance due of only $664.90.
Unbelievably good value!
Program fee includes tranportation to/from the airport in Bucharest,
Romania; hotel accommodations; daily hot breakfast; 2 full day coach trips; and
museum and site entrance fees and tips. Students are responsible for obtaining
their own transportation from the US to Bucharest; cheap tickets are available
online at such sites as Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity,
Priceline, cheaptickets.com, and so forth. But one
can also get a good deal sometimes by telephoning the major airlines directly
and asking "how much are your cheapest tickets to Bucharest, Romania?"
