Goran's Gifts

Generations of UM Writers Gather to Remember Professor Lester Goran

The MFA in Creative Writing Program celebrated the life and the legacy of its founding professor Lester Goran, who in 1965 established the first in a series of creative writing workshops in the University of Miami College of Arts & Sciences. In 1991 he helped organize the MFA in Creative Writing. On Thursday night, October 23, four recent alumni currently on book tour read in his honor at Books & Books.  And on Friday evening, Mangrove, UM’s undergraduate national literary journal launched a special edition in Goran’s name.  Alumni from around the world returned to read and honor their professor. Also in attendance were sons John and William Goran and their families. Pictured, left to right: Bonnie and William Goran, Professor M.
