Poli Sci Prof Joseph Parent wins Nobel Fellowship


Joseph M. Parent, Assistant Professor of Political Science, has been awarded a 2012 Nobel Fellowship. Each year, the Nobel Institute appoints approximately seven scholars to reside in Oslo, Norway for 4-12 weeks. Fellows debate issues of war and peace and hold public research seminars. The topic of this year's program is "Power and Polarity: The Ascent and Descent of Great Powers".

Professor Parent's first book, Uniting States, was published this autumn, and his most recent article (coauthored with Paul K. MacDonald), "The Wisdom of Retrenchment," is featured on the cover of the current Foreign Affairs magazine. This spring, Professor Parent will also be consulting for the National Intelligence Council in a pre-publication review of their Global Trends 2030 report.
