Dr. John T. Fitzgerald appointed "Professor Extraordinary" at South African University

Traveling to the other side of the globe has its rewards for Religious Studies Professor John Fitzgerald. Over the last ten years, Dr. Fitzgerald has visited South Africa often while remaining on the faculty at UM. He has presented the keynote address at the annual meeting of the New Testament Society, been invited to a visiting researcher post, and served on the evaluation committee for research by South African scholars.

Now, Professor Fitzgerald has received a three year appointment as a “Professor Extraordinary” for the School of Theology at the Potchefstroom Campus of North-West University. This honor recognizes his achievements in his research area of the religions and philosophies of the ancient Mediterranean world, and the interactions of Jews and Christians in Greco-Roman culture.

Professor Fitzgerald will continue in his post as Professor of Religious Studies at UM, but will work with graduate students at the School of Theology at North-West University, advising them on their research projects, and serve on doctoral dissertation committees.
