What I love most about Miami is its relationship with Latin Americans: from the people who go back and forth through the airport to the migrants who reshape South Florida every day with their languages and cultural traditions. Attending the University of Miami (UM) allows me to do research in a truly diverse academic environment; but, it is also the city itself that enriches me with the day-to-day experiences that go beyond campus life.

I came to UM looking for my current advisor, Dr. George Yúdice, and I’m very happy I made that decision. During my years at UM I have learned a lot, and am still learning from him, from my professors and from my fellow students. For example, it is because of my experience in one of my Portuguese classes that I decided to go to Brazil and do research.  My Spanish courses have inspired me, among other things, to revisit the works of Latin American intellectuals of the 19th century. There’s a lot to do and to learn. I’m glad to be a part of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures here at UM.
