Edwin Murillo's article “Existential(ist) Echoes: Bad Faith Poetics in Pascual Duarte and His Family" has been published in the prestigious European publication _Neophilologus_ 93.2 (April 2009): 233-247.
Marine Piriou, has had a review essay on El Hadj, by Mamadou Mahmoud N’Dongo accepted for publication in Cultures Sud / Notre Librairie, no.170 - Découvertes: 20 auteurs du Sud, Paris, Ed. Culturesfrance, September 2008, p.157.
Marine Piriou's article “La Religieuse de Denis Diderot ou l’art de la confession homotextuelle” has been published in RALM, N°10 - Homosexualité(s) et Littérature, pp. 71-86 (RALM is a French Journal specialized in Arts and Literature).
Salvador Luis Raggio has published a short story, titled “The Joe Schmo Show,” in the short story anthology, QUINCE GOLPES EN LA CABEZA. Ed. Ernesto Pérez Castillo. (Havana: Editorial Cajachina). Other writers in the anthology include:

Conferences and Colloquia
Benoit Mauchamp presented his paper entitled "Invading Indochina : a textual and visual journey through colonization" at Vanderbilt University for the 34th Annual Nineteenth-Century French Studies Colloquium on October, 16-18 2008.
He also presented a paper is entitled “The Reporter’s Referential Body as a Literary Tool”, at the "Fourth International Conference for Literary journalism" - 14-16 May 2009, at Northwestern University.
Marine Piriou presented a paper entitled “D’un Je à l’Autre ou l’histoire ambiguë de La Mulâtresse Solitude d’André Schwarz-Bart” at the 2009 French Department Graduate Conference of Carleton University (Ottawa, CANADA).
The University of Miami, Department of Modern Languages and Literatures 2009 Graduate Student Conference, "Microcosms and Macrocosms: Inner and Outer Spaces in Texts", was organized by Marine Piriou, Salvador Raggio, and Maidelín Rodriguez, with assistance from the rest of the graduate students.
The conference took place on March 27-28, 2009 and had as keynote speakers Dr. J. Michael Dash, New York University, and Dr. Marc Brudzinksi, University of Miami.
Awards and Distinctions
Mary Bartsh has been selected to participate in the first cohort of graduate students that will participate in the Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) program at the University of Miami. The students selected represent a variety of academic disciplines which will in turn enhance the breadth and depth of discussions about faculty preparation and the benefits of an academic career.
Lennie Coleman has been chosen as the first alternate to receive a Center for the Humanities 2009-2010 Dissertation Fellowship.
Sabrina Draï Wengier has won the 2009 Graduate Award for Excellence in Student Leadership. This is the highest award that any graduate student may receive at UM.
Ariel Gutiérrez Torres has received a 2009-2010 College of Arts & Sciences Dissertation Award.
Edwin Murillo has been named the MLL 2009 Outstanding Graduate Student.
Melva Persico has been awarded a Center for Latin American Studies Summer Research Grant.
Vanessa Reynaud has been named the MLL 2009 Outstanding Teaching Assistant in French.
Gabriela Zaviezo has been named the MLL 2009 Outstanding Teaching Assistant in Spanish.
