Melva Persico (Ph.D. 2011) has published “Voices and Hybridity: The Case of María Nsue Angüe’s Ekomo” in Afro-Hispanic Review [31.1 (Spring 2012): 133-48], one of the leading peer-reviewed journals in the field of Afro-Hispanic studies.

Juan Carlos Toledano (Ph.D. 2002) has launched a new academic journal, Alambique. Revista Académica de Ciencia-Ficción y Fantasía /Jornal Acadêmico de Ficção Científica e Fantasía. Alambique (ISSN 2167-6577) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal devoted to scholarly research and criticism in the fields of science fiction and fantasy originally composed in Spanish or Portuguese. Alambique will accept scholarly articles written in English, however, as long as the main focus of the study concentrates on one of the Spanish or Portuguese cultural regions of the world. It will also accept scholarly articles written in Spanish, Portuguese and English that focus on relevant cultural contact areas, i.e. Catalan, Guarani, Nahuatl, etc. In addition, Alambique intends to publish old and/or largely forgotten literary works that helped forge the Spanish and Portuguese tradition in science fiction and fantasy. These texts, whenever possible, will have accompanying English translation.

Corrinne Lhermitte (Ph.D. 2004) has published two articles in scholarly online journals:

“A Jakobsonian Approach to Film Adaptations of Hugo’s Les Misérables.”

Nebula 2:1 (2005): 97-107. and  “Adaptation as Rewriting: Evolution of a Concept” in La Revue LISA/LISA E-Journal 2:5 (2004): 26-45 (University of Caen, France).


Sandra Marchand (Ph.D. 2003) has received tenure and has been promoted to Associate Professor of French at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras.

Edwin Murillo's (Ph.D. 2009) article “Existentialism avant la lettre: The Case of Enrique Labrador Ruiz’s El laberinto de sí mismo” has been accepted for publication in Hispanófila.

Joe Zavala (Ph.D. 2006) has published Visión del Perú de académicos peruanos en Estados Unidos, co-edited with M. Cristina Alcalde. La Academia Diplomática del Perú, 2007. Also, has accepted a position at National University en La Jolla, CA, where he will department Chair.
