Alumni Gift Brings Esteemed Minds to Miami
In the 1980’s, students and faculty of the University
of Miami’s Department of Mathematics were
treated to annual seminars that provided them
with the opportunity to learn about new topics
from some of the world’s best mathematicians and to
exchange ideas with them. Known as the McKnight
Lecture Series, it was created and sustained by

Donor Shares Passion for learning
Jimmie Nelson, who graduated from the University of Miami in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, believed that higher education is not a means to an end but rather the basis of a lifelong journey. Now, aided by his generous donation of $235,000 – given to the College of Arts and Sciences with half directed to the Department of Chemistry – University of Miami students for many generations to come may be similarly prepared for that journey.View this Article »
Supporting Citizens of the World
The Raffs are willing to foot the bill so that a number of exceptional University of Miami undergraduate students can embark on journeys, both literal and figurative, of their own. They have created an endowed scholarship, within the Department of International Studies, that sponsors up to 10 qualified international-studies students to attend the University and participate in study-abroad opportunities.
