Dr. Uluorta is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the International Studies Department at the University of Miami. He completed his Ph.D. in the Political Science Department at York University in Toronto, Canada. He has been a Visiting Scholar in the Politics Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz and most recently was the Associate Director of the Center on Ethics at Stanford University. His scholarly interests include international relations theory, global political economy, security and risk studies, alternative development strategies, regulation of the global economy, employment/work, the social economy as well as structuralism/post-structuralism. His most recent research focuses on the US model of development. Through a Lacanian and neo-Gramscian lens this research seeks to clarify why consent is forthcoming despite the existence of hyper-contradictions. He is also the author of the 2009 book The Social Economy: Working Alternatives in a Globalizing Era published by Routledge.
