He is the Director of the Sue and Leonard Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies at the University of Miami. He obtained his Ph.D. in History, School of Oriental and African Studies, at the University of London. He was named Director of the University's recently founded Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies. His academic specializations are in the modern history and politics of the Middle East, Islam as a political force, and Arab-Israeli relations.
