Florida at the Crossroads: Five Hundred Years of Encounters, Conflicts, and Exchanges

A public conference commemorating the five hundredth anniversary of the landing of Juan Ponce de León on Florida shores

Registration, Directions, Parking, and Hotel


In the registration process you may choose a Friday pass or a Saturday pass or both.  Please remember if you choose a pass, to choose a breakout session in the registration process for that day.  If you choose a pass you may also add individual sessions, not included in your pass, to your registration.  Please note, the opening keynote address on Thursday February 9th evening, and the closing performance, Hail! God of Seeds, on the evening of Saturday February 11th, are not included in passes.

Teachers, Professors, and group leaders please note:  The conference is appropriate for ages high school and above. If you would like to attend as a group please contact our  group coordinator, Sarah Ritcheson at humanities@miami.edu or call 305.284.1580, to make arrangements.



Mutiny Hotel

Out of town attendees may receive the UM Center for the Humanities rate at the Mutiny Hotel in Coconut Grove for conference dates. This UM rate may be obtained through reservations placed online at this link:

Lunch Options

Friday, February 10th - On Friday, the following on-campus food options are available: Subway, Hurricane Food Court, and The Rathskellar.  The recommended off-campus food options are Moon Sushi & Thai and Titanic Restaurant & Brewery.

Saturday, February 11th - On Saturday, lunch will be served at Mahoney-Pearson Dining Hall for a fee of $8.00. Cash and credit cards are accepted. Flyers with more information will be handed out at the conference.
