TRANSRETRATOS / TRANSPORTRAITS

 in collaboration with
University of Miami Center for the Humanities

An Art Exhibition of Portraits of Transgender and Transsexual People by Contemporary Spanish Artists.

Transretratos (Transportraits) brings visibility to transgender and transsexual people and aims to see them not just through the eyes of the artists who took the photographs, but also through their own eyes. The ultimate purpose of this exhibition is to normalize transgender and transsexual identities and to bring them closer to the whole of society, so that they are better understood and respected. The exhibition also intends to highlight the presence, dignity, and normality of this group of people within the LGTB community. With this exhibition, we also celebrate the recent passage in Spain of the Ley de Identidad de Género (Gender Identity Law) that has ended many years of discrimination in this country for this important community.

The artworks of this exhibition will be projected as a slide-show during the breaks in the sessions of the Trans Global / Global Trans Symposium.
