      Professor Martin joined the History Department faculty in 1981. As a specialist in pre-modern Russian history, she has written dozens of articles in her field as well as two books: Treasure of the Land of Darkness: The Fur Trade and its Significance for Medieval Russia, (Cambridge 1986; paperback edition, 2004) and Medieval Russia, 988-1584 (Cambridge 1995). Dr. Martin is currently conducting research on landholding and the centralization of power in sixteenth-century Russia.
