Background Information
Dr. Alexandre is a health economist and serves as a research assistant in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He has excellent training in theoretical and applied economics. His experience includes substance abuse research, health economics, policy and program evaluation, urban and regional economics, economic impact analysis, environmental economics, and epidemiology. He also has hands-on experience in life insurance and mutual funds investments and has taught courses including microeconomics, macroeconomics, business statistics, and biostatistics.
Dr. Alexandre is currently leading studies to estimate the costs and consequences of alcohol use and abuse and to analyze the co-occurring effects of alcohol abuse and mental illness on employment and number of weeks worked. Dr. Alexandre is currently a recipient of a KO1 award from NIAA. He also served as Principal Investigator on a small grant from NIDA. He has led two book chapters and published articles in many peer-reviewed journals.
