Jan Nijman, Ph.D.

Professor Nijmanís interests are in urban and regional development, globalization, and comparative urbanism. His regional interests include metropolitan Miami and Mumbai, with over a decade of fieldwork experience in India. He is an elected member of the National Geographic Societyís Committee for Research & Exploration of the NGS and Director of the University of Miamiís Urban Studies program. He was a Guggenheim Fellow in 2003 and is a recipient of the Nystrom Award of the Association of American Geographers. His research has been published in The Annals of the Association of American Geographers, Urban Geography, the Tijdschrift voor Economische en Sociale Geografie, and The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, among other journals.
