Giving Thanks for a Successful Semester
December 19, 2011
As I reflect on the accomplishments of Arts & Sciences students, faculty and staff this fall, I am reminded that our college has many reasons to be thankful at the end of another successful semester.
We are thankful for our students, who have proven exceptional ambassadors for the University of Miami. We are proud of our entering students, who continued a decade-long trend of earning higher SAT scores, which reflects both their promise as scholars and the increasing prominence of the College of Arts and Sciences. We also congratulate our December graduates, who have fulfilled their own promise, garnering accolades from the classroom to the playing field and serving admirably on campus, throughout Miami, and around the world.
We are grateful for our faculty, who have achieved numerous academic distinctions this semester. We welcome our newly tenured professors, and we applaud the many awards, fellowships and honors that our scholars have earned this fall for their vital research. We give thanks, too, for our staff, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to support the work of the college.
Finally, we are grateful for this beautiful campus, where southern suns and sky blue water have indeed smiled upon us this fall, bringing us to the end of another hurricane season unscathed. So, fellow Hurricanes, as we look toward an exciting new semester and a promising 2012, I urge you to continue your contributions to this great institution and to keep sharing the achievements of our remarkable college with the rest of the world.
