What is Exploration Science?
Exploration Science is the applied practice and study of field research using a variety of methods, technologies, and approaches. This approach develops expedition skills and studies the cultural and ethical implications of exploration.
Exploration Science is not a new discipline, but rather a combination of skills, techniques, and approaches to doing effective, safe, and useful fieldwork to help advance our understanding of the planet. Our program pulls together many different areas related to exploration and presents them in one cohesive program that would be hard to put together on one’s own. In addition, the contacts and experiences the program can offer students is also a uniquely valuable asset to the program.
This new program is jointly run by the University of Miami’s Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy and the Master of Professional Science Program at The Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS).
