Program of Study
The DILS program schedule follows the academic calendar of the University of Miami. Students and Language Partners must attend the first DILS Orientation meeting scheduled during the first week of classes. They will receive email notification of the exact date and time of the meeting.
Students and Language Partners must establish the schedule of their Practice Sessions before the beginning of classes and submit them to the DILS Director who works with the Office of the Registrar to secure classrooms.
Students are expected to attend faithfully the first and all subsequent meetings of their Practice Sessions during the semester.
Students are responsible for acquiring and assimilating the information in the various components of the instructional materials. In addition, they will be urged to engage in a variety of activities related to the language of their study: organize conversation groups, attend films, plays, exhibits, special events, related to the language and culture of their study; interview speakers of the target language; maintain blogs and podcasts using the target language, create videos and i-movies.
Students are expected to monitor their progress, regularly review their short and long-term goals and adjust their learning strategies as needed. They will be asked to submit weekly progress-self-evaluation reports.
The Director of DILS visits the Practice Sessions, meets with students outside the sessions, and has regular meetings with the Language Partners. The dialogue with the Director is maintained throughout the semester.
