In mid-September Congress kicked off celebrations for Hispanic Heritage Month by awarding the prestigious Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition to Ms. Alejandra Collarte. The certificate, which recognizes outstanding public service to the community, is also a celebration of the contribution of Latin@s to the nation. UM’s own Ms. Collarte, Director of International and Corporate Affairs at the Department of Information Technology and a frequent contributor to the Center for Latin American Studies, is a recipient of this exceptional honor. Bearing the signature of Senator Marco Rubio, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, and Congressmen Mario Diaz-Balart and David Rivera, the certificate is also a symbolic reminder of the importance of public service.
Ms. Collarte is not only a remarkable community member, but also a generous friend of the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) with which she collaborates on various projects. CLAS would like to congratulate Ms. Collarte for her commitment to public service and wish her continued success.
