GREATER MIAMI CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SELECTS UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI'S CENTER FOR LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES AS FINALIST FOR ITS ANNUAL PHILANTHROPIC AND COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD

October 26, 2011

The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce released the finalists for its Annual Business Leadership Award, and has selected the Center for Latin American Studies as one of the finalists for the Philanthropic and Community Leadership Award. The winners will be announced at the 5th Annual International Business Leadership Awards, which recognize international businesses - whether for-profit or nonprofit, large or small - that significantly impact the economy of Florida. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place this Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Jungle Island in a program that will begin at 11:30 a.m.

The Philanthropic and Community Leadership Award honors local businesses and organizations committed to philanthropic giving, community involvement, and community outreach. The Miami Chamber of Commerce seeks to honor organizations that go above and beyond the call of duty. The announcement comes as UM's Center for Latin American Studies embarks on an ambitious outreach program targeted to hundreds of students and teachers in the Greater Miami area public school system.

The Center for Latin American Studies is a National Resource Center through a U.S. Department of Education Title VI grant, serves as an academic resource creating multidisciplinary linkages among different schools and colleges across the University, and engages the community through its diverse and highly innovative outreach programs.
