CLAS helps bring Haitian Creole to UMMay 9, 2011
The University of Miami’s Center for Latin American Studies has contributed to bring an important component of the Caribbean to the University students as it partnered up with the Department of Modern Languages and Literature to offer a Haitian Creole class for the first time in UM’s history.
With enthusiastic professor Cherol Marcelin leading the course, the Haitian Creole program has gained popularity in a short amount of time amongst undergrad and graduate students. The program, which is fully funded by CLAS’ Title VI grant, is expected to deepen the exchange of cultural information and understanding of Haitian society at UM. We are all very proud of this new step in the direction of a stronger connection between CLAS and the Caribbean region.
