Queering the Straight (?) Canon from Early Modern to Postmodern

The graduate program in English presents a mini-symposium on the occasion of the publication of Straight Writ Queer: Non-normative Expressions of Heterosexuality and Literature, a collection of essays edited by Ph.D. candidate Richard Fantina, who will present introductory remarks on Ernest Hemingway (Fantina is the author of Ernest Hemingway: Machismo and Masochism ([Palgrave Macmillan, 2005]). Speakers will include second-year M.A. student Jennifer Wood on Britomart's enchanted spear in Spenser's Faerie Queene, senior lecturer Andy Strycharski on homoerotic materialism in Milton's Comus, and M.A. graduate Zachary Sifuentes on the queer body in Jeffrey Eugenides' Middlesex.
