Presenters: Claudio Jesús Pérez and Dr. John W. Murphy
“El Departamento Ecuménico de Investigaciones (DEI) is a think tank in San José, Costa Rica. This center has had significant influence in Central and South America, but little is known about this institute outside of these locations. The problem is that the vast majority of the work of the scholars associated with this organization has been published only in Spanish. During March, 2009 Pérez and Murphy travelled to Costa Rica in order to interview Pablo Richard, the long-time director of DEI. These interviews generated novel insights into the history, outlook, and purpose of this organization. The brown bag presentation will focus on the historical background, key areas of interest, and the philosophical/theoretical developments of DEI.”
