The War on Illegal Drug Production and Trafficking: An economic evaluation of Plan Colombia

November 04 at 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM
MM 118
International Studies Lecture

Brief Description: This study provides a thorough economic evaluation of the anti-drug policies implemented in Colombia between 2000 and 2007 under the so-called Plan Colombia. The study provides different measures of the effectiveness, the efficiency and the costs of the war against illegal drug production and trafficking in Colombia. We make special emphasis in identifying the key aspects that help explain the ineffectiveness (and high costs) of supply side interventions in the so-called "war on drugs" in producer countries.
