Course description:

This course examines in a comparative perspective the complex concepts of race, color, and ethnicity in the Greater Caribbean, including the non-Iberian parts of Central and Northeastern South America, and how they relate to the notions of class and power. These relationships are in turn studied in the context of the economic, social, and political development of these respective lands, their tensions and conflicts, and their implication in world political economy, not excluding phenomena of international migration and forced displacement.
