The African Diaspora Music Festival: Interrogating the African Diaspora Through Music - Part I
The festival surveys the origins, history, styles, dissemination, evolution, and enculturation of music in the African Diaspora. Starting the journey from the African continent, the festival takes participants on a journey through the Caribbean, Central and South America and finally ends in the United States. It pays particular attention to African American musical genres, cross-cultural influences, the interaction of tradition and improvisation and of pedagogy and transmission, and the impact of music of the African Diaspora on values, lifestyle, communications, economy and culture worldwide.
