Preparation for a future as a health care professional begins on day one of your undergraduate education, if not before. Gaining admission to a professional program requires mindful, consistent planning; as your PreHealth advisor, it is my responsibility to assist you in this challenging endeavor.

As an undergraduate at the University of Miami, you will make many important decisions from academic course selection, to community service and campus activities, to application to professional school and participation in research. My goal, as your advisor, is that we in the premedical office will make this seemingly enormous task smooth and ultimately successful. To assist you in this process we offer several sessions including: group sessions for first and second year students who have not opened a PreHealth file, sophomore sessions for students who have already opened their premedical file, and individual appointments.

Further, we have prepared the PreHealth Student Guidelines to provide you with direction and information. Please read this material closely and familiarize yourself with the policies and procedures of our office. A central focus of our guidelines is to encourage you to create a file in our office. Your growth as a student, captured in the contents of your file, will serve as the basis for your committee letter of recommendation. The "PreHealth Student Guidelines" is designed to provide a clear and detailed understanding of the involved health career planning process. Use this guide as a planning tool - bring it to all your appointments with the Prehealth Advisor and fill out the checklist accordingly. Your job is to follow, in a diligent manner, the directives set forth in this manual. I cannot emphasize strongly enough the importance of developing a conscientious, intelligent, and responsible attitude toward your career objective. Of course, you can count on the support of our office as you meet the challenges ahead.
